Alejandra Gorriti Art
Shadows Collection
2025

Each artwork is an internal discourse that attempts to reveal itself through its breaks and interruptions.

The transfers from paper to canvas, worn and imperfect, construct an emotional and uncomfortable shadow suspended over an acrylic background of pop prints. Each shadow, laden with fragments of text, appears maladjusted to the outside, to its background, creating an atmosphere of unease and disturbance, a symbol of vulnerability or an enigma.

Angel (Hermes)
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

What is an angel?

In every religion there are silent emissaries from above, described as winged or monstrous beings. Hermes, the winged-footed god of borders and protector of those who cross them, also brings a dark and cryptic message from Olympus, the luminous mountain.

La Gracia
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

In a predictable and alienating environment that excludes the sublime, there is only place for an artificial laboratory grace that keeps us sane or unleashes madness.

Destiny
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

The stars trace a path to an inexorable destiny that has no explanation or hope: the birth chart of every being on earth only indicates the brief period during which an irresistible force guides the traveler toward death. The astrological symbols of the planets and mathematical points gravitate and vanish in a yellow sky.

Necessity
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Yin and yang, the feminine and masculine principles, darkness and light, earth and sky, penetration and reception, are Taoist concepts that explain the opposing and complementary forces that generate and order an unstable universe.

Le Désespoir
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

The despair that lurks in every common gesture is revealed, falls, cries in the street, between the wheels, in public; it reaches its hands upward and cries out, but it is only an internal state that no one sees.

Plegaria
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Prayer connects heaven and earth (religare) or becomes childish in its irrational and meaningless repetition within a limited spiritual space. The door to transcendence is closed to this immature, dependent, praying image.

Le Pouvoir qui tombe
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Power falls, and its figure is distorted, desperate, and threatening; it disturbs a pink background of mandalas. Power is constructed by newspaper headlines that refer to something - or someone - disturbing.

Life
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Death is an inseparable part of life, beating in every blade of grass and every being that inhabits this universe; it sets the pace and erects an illusory wall between life and life.
Espera
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Deep within every heart is written time and the end of time, expansion and contraction, the secret of life, its beginning and its end.
Burden
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Each person carries a world, an invisible burden that weighs on the soul and affects the body: it tenses it, deforms it, and wears it down until it collapses.
Mutation
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

The I Ching or Book of Changes is structured in 64 hexagrams; the random fall of three coins, or the separation of millenrama sticks, will point to the one who is in synchronicity (as understood by Jung) with the moment in the life of the questioner. The message changes every moment, constant mutation moves the gears of the world.

Non
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

Fear is a hermetic shell that isolates, a solid armor that refuses to open. Only a vulnerable and unreserved heart can connect to emotions and life, and thus be free.

Phobia
81 x 116 cm
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, transfer.

The irrational fear of an imaginary threat causes tension, triggers alerts, marginalizes, and pushes us to seek a protective shell against the danger created by our wounded psyche. The menace, however, is inside.
